i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 352 words commentary Guess who started an open thread?!? That's right it's me! | Despite the war going on and the constant battling over the last several years, Remus had lived a fairly happy life. Fulfilled. He didn’t think he needed anything else – there were things he might want, but he was content with his life and wouldn’t let himself think of those things he would never get. Since the Express arrived on a Saturday, he had a whole day before classes started, so here he was getting his office ready for the next year. Luckily, Dumbledore had convinced a certain potions master to brew him a wolfsbane potion every month, so he wouldn’t have to worry about his painful transformations – though still painful, just not harmful to others. He could keep his mind, and that was amazing.
Remus peered around the mostly empty office, even after his unpacked, and sighed. Being back at Hogwarts made him feel quite nice – remembering the good days with his friends here… not to mention they were here too with him. He hoped they had matured a bit and wouldn’t cause too much trouble. He knew Sirius was going to make McGonagall’s life hell, but hopefully he could reign him in if it got too much. Then again, he never really could ‘reign’ Sirius or James in ever.
Using his hands instead of his wand, he folded up his socks and put them into a drawer nearby and then looked at the newly organized office with pride. It likely wouldn’t stay that long – he did get to teach the older students, so he got one less year, but the material was much harder. Dumbledore had insisted that he was more than qualified for the job, so he accepted it… only because his friends had pressured him into doing it. That, and he saw it as an opportunity to see his sister who was lovely, even though he didn’t get to see her very often.
Whistling to himself ‘Hey Jude’, a muggle song his mother had gotten him caught on, he took a seat on his desk, putting his feet up on the surface like some sort of delinquent. So bad.

Rose was humming some Beatles song she had heard playing over the summer to herself as she made her way down the hall. Why the Express had made them arrive on a Saturday she had no idea, but it left Sunday up to the students, and well, that was honestly trouble, if you asked her. Especially for her, as she found herself bored out of her mind.
She was honestly going to leave him alone, as it had been the first time in a very long while since she'd seen him. But the urge was just too great, and the ability to see him was just too easy. So, alas, she found herself wandering up the stairs to the third-floor offices, where she knew he would be hiding.
When she arrived the door was slightly ajar and she could hear him humming and she smirked, swinging the door open suddenly, seeing him sitting there with his feet propped up on his desk.
"Feet off the furniture mister!"

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 207 words commentary | Remus’s eyes had gone wide as he saw the door open – he hadn’t put anything up, so he would know if someone was coming here. Though apparently, he needed that, so he wasn’t caught with his feet up if a student had come to see him. After all he was a professional now. He had to look tip top shape – even if his clothes were old and shabby. It meant he had to work extra hard to earn their respect and having his feet up on the desk was no way to earn it!
Except quickly he realized who it was who had come to see him. Who else would it be? Sirius? James? Well both were big possibilities, even Peter and Lily were possible too. However, he grinned seeing the face of the younger sister. He had missed her quite dearly. Feigning surprise, though at first it was real, he put a hand to his chest and gasped.
“Oh no! I can’t believe I’ve been caught. What ever will happen to me? Will I receive detention, Professor Lupin?” Regardless, he kept his feet up for a few more seconds before he sprang to his feet and towards Rose, pulling her into a hug. “I’ve missed you.”

"Detention, for you? Whatever for?"
She giggled wrapping her arms around him, returning the hug. "You've been gone a while. Last time you saw me I was to your waist, now my head at least reaches your shoulder!"
She was joking, it hadn't been that long but it had sure felt like it. Letters had been sparse too. "So am I to thank Dumbledore for his plans on making you teach, or be angry that you only seem to go out of his way for him, instead of you dearest sister?"
She gave a waggle of her eyebrows.
"I've missed you too, Moony. Also, you may need to put a leash on Professor Black; I think McGonagall's eyebrow may fall off with how much I've seen it twitch just today. And he's only been here since last night!"
She chuckled, shaking her head.
"How do you put up with him Remus? He is a monster."
A smirk. "I haven't gotten the chance to meet your other friends, Pettigrew and the Potters was it?"

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 305 words commentary | She was exaggerating, but honestly, not that much. He hadn’t really had the time to send letters or visit and honestly, he felt bad and guilty for that – but he didn’t really have too much choice as it was, given he was off fighting. Even still, it was nice, even if he wasn’t quite used to this type of treatment. When there was war, it was hard even on friends.
“Yes, Dumbledore requested that we come to Hogwarts to teach while… doing some things for the Order while here. Hogwarts is very important to the cause, you know, and there’s a lot going on.” When she mentioned Padfoot, he just chuckled. He knew that the instant Dumbledore wanted more than just him to come back to Hogwarts, it was going to be a lot of fun. And also terrible at the same time. So long as they were learning what they needed to learn, however, it was going to be alright.
“And you think I can put a leash on him? Did you hear anything about our time here at Hogwarts?” He laughed shaking his head, “I’ll try, but I can’t guarantee anything.” When she said monster, however, his face dropped. His looked at her seriously and shook his head.
“I know monsters pretty well, I’d like to say. And he may be trouble, but he’s no where near a monster.” Unless he’s luring a kid to a werewolf during the full moon. Either way, he was a bit sensitive about the monster thing, since he was a monster, or so he thought, but he didn’t think any of his friends were that bad. Trouble? Yes. Very yes. Monster? No. They didn’t kill indiscriminately. Like him. Or those Death Eaters.
“Yes, James and Peter. I think you’ll find they’re all great in their own way.”

Something super secret was going on, she could tell. Just given how little information he was giving her. Though, she would be surprised if even he had been given a straight answer.
Knowing Dumbledore, probably not.
"Just don't blow up the castle, or whatever."
She smirked at him, but immediately at his face falling, she sighed. "Hey, none of that! I was joking! Geez!"
She pulled away only to slap her hands against his cheeks and rub in circles. It was ridiculous, but now she felt bad and had to put a smile back onto his face.
"Sorry, I'm used to making jokes about the furry little problem instead of wallowing in misery about it."
She let her hands fall, "I'm sure I will, James sounds lovely, as far as I've heard from Sirius rambling on and on."

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 212 words commentary | He gave her a toothy grin. While he didn’t know exactly what they were looking for here, he wasn’t one to question Dumbledore’s orders – though he did ask things like ‘what are we looking for’ and Dumbledore was very vague about it – something to do with the founders.
“No promises.” He gives her a small wink.
Even still, he felt like a little bit of an ass, he knew she didn’t mean to offend him, but he just didn’t really like people being called monsters – especially those who were his friends when he would compare them to him – or those they fought.
He gave her a weak smile. “ I know, I know. It’s my problem, not yours. Don’t worry about it. Just be happy, okay?” He gave her a small nod. While she too had the ‘furry little problem’ she wasn’t quite as held back by it – she was more of a Gryffindor than he ever was, and he truly believed it.
“Yes, well, if James didn’t marry Lily, I’m sure Sirius would’ve insisted on it.” He laughs, rolling his eyes slightly, “Peter’s good too. I’m sure you’ll like him. He is pretty funny, though not in the same way James and Sirius are – they’re more in your face about it.”

She rolled her eyes and gave a heavy sigh, she wrapped her arms around him in a hug again, inhaling deeply. "Still, stupid me and not thinking before I speak. I'm seventeen! I should be more mature than that... I'm a Seventh year! I'm Graduating!"
She flushed, "can't believe it. But I'm glad you're here."
She hesitated a moment, a dark look crossing her face. "I was... scared, you being out there. Fighting. I thought I wouldn't ever see you again."
The sombre moment didn't last long though as Rose gave a snort, "Why am I not surprised that Sirius would have insisted on such a thing?"
She actually rolled her eyes, "mmm, I dunno. Maybe. I should've been going around as Mom's surname this year - give them a fright, but I'm sure you would've just told them about me anyways."
She gave a mischevious grin, "whatever you told them, I hope it was good. Me and Tonks' are gonna cause you all hell."
She barked a laugh.

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 375 words commentary | Remus gave her a small smile. He appreciated her concern for him, but it was unnecessary. Well, yes he was offended by the monster comment, but he also loved her and therefore forgave her instantly for it – its not like he hadn’t heard worse.
“You are graduating, later this year, but not yet. I have always felt school ended a little too soon. Even these days, I learn something new every day.” He was always learning – usually about the cruelty of this world, but also the light of this world. He would meet young folks of the future and see how amazing the next generation was – Rose, Nymphadora, Harry, everyone. Though Rose wasn’t that far from his generation, so that wasn’t really saying too much. There was just so much wrong – a lot of Death Eaters had come from when he was in school or a little bit earlier, not that he could prove who they were, even though he knew it.
“You don’t have to worry about me,” If I died, it wouldn’t be that big of a loss. At least I get to use my life for something good. Not that he would say it aloud, but that was what he thought. At least he was able to save people and do something good – if he died, he would want it to be saving someone else. “The fight is worth it.”
Remus chuckled when she snorted and shook his head. “I would have, yes. They deserve to know that I could possibly be biased when grading, but just because you’re my baby sister doesn’t mean I will go easy on you – if anything it’ll be the opposite. I know you can do it.”
Tonks? Oh, Tonks. Of course she was friends with Sirius’s little cousin. He hadn’t really known Tonks very well, but, wasn’t her name Nymphadora? Oh right, he remembered Sirius mentioning it once that she doesn’t like her name. He liked it. He thought it was pretty. “I don’t doubt it, Rose. Nymphadora and you are related to two of us. Let’s say thanks that Harry isn’t here with you or it would’ve been even worse – though I hear those Weasley twins are taking over your title for pranksters of the school.”

Rose nodded, feeling the same. She felt like she had just arrived here, had so much more time. Now she had to be thinking of whatever career path she would take - that was if there was one. It had been always easy for her to forget her furry little problem, at least until the week leading up until the full moon. She had also managed to go this long without anyone finding out - a feat in itself, as she tended to run her mouth a bit.
"But you're here, you'll get to see me graduate! And that'll be totally awesome. If you were out there and missed it, I would feel a little bad."
She shook her head, "sorry, I'm like mom, I'm gonna worry. But I know the fight is worth it; but I'm still going to worry where you are, if you're eating, are you sleeping well... you know, all that."
She barked out a laugh, "you? Biased? Mr Professional? No way. Just... make sure not to assign any really long essays before certain times of the month. I tend to get sick and it takes a few days to recover."
She gave a wink, laughing again. "The Weasley twins... those two little shits... they have nothing on Tonks and I... at least, not yet.
Nothing on you and your gaggle of friends, either. Though McGonagall looks like she wants to retire."

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 342 words commentary | “I would feel bad too. It’s a big thing. Do you have any… plans after school?” Given their little issue, it would be difficult to really hold a job unless she had gotten much better at hiding how bad the moon made them feel. He hadn’t really worked the past several years, mostly just doing Order things, living with James because he refused to go home to Rose and their parents – it wasn’t because of Rose and she knew that.
“Well you don’t have to worry about that – James, Sirius, Peter, Lily, they all are making sure I do that except when I’m off on my own, which does tend to happen sometimes – I visit colonies to try to get them on our side, you know? It wouldn’t work with anyone else in the Order.” He avoiding saying ‘werewolf colonies’ just in case someone was listening. He had a couple of people who were listening to him when he went over there, but most were afraid of Greyback or hated them because of how they have been mistreated by wizard-kind.
“I can’t make any promises on that. But, if I did, I would have to be grading as well during those times, and I would rather not have to if I can avoid it.” He chuckles and shakes his head. He had a whole schedule planned out, and he had made sure to plan around the moons and when he would feel ill. “It’s coming up, you know. That time of the month.” He wasn’t looking forward to it, but it would be the first time he had wolfsbane potion and that was fantastic.
“Well, we were pretty special. I think if we give them a bit of time they might surpass our little gaggle of friends.” He chuckles, thinking back to the good old school days. “Hopefully Sirius doesn’t annoy her too much – she’s a wonderful professor. I’ll try to do better to keep him a bit calmer. We have grown – but he’s still just as… good humored, putting it lightly.”

Here, her expression darkened again, just slightly.
"Tonks and I kinda followed in the same career path, I think, on complete accident. But Gonagall and my grades say I'm on a fast track to be an Auror. Seems like I have a penchant for finding trouble."
She gives a wry smile, "given everything about me. But even McGonagall gives me this sad smile. She wants to push me, but she can't guarantee anything. It gets hard to focus and care about my grades and everything when the future is so... bleak in a sense for me."
Her eyes sparkled sadly, "at least..."
She hesitated and then looked up to him. "Even with those skills, maybe I could come along with you - to the colonies. The others, they need to know that it's possible to trust... you know. Life is hard. But it doesn't have to be hard alone, you know."
She chuckled softly. "I know you'll try, but I can't promise it'll be in on time. But I make no excuses. I've gotten this far. Even Snape has been fair! You should see the sneer he gets when he calls my name. It's become a laugh at this point."
Her eyes lit up, an idea hit her, "it is coming up! We should spend it together! It'll be fun!"
She then faltered, "I mean; if that's okay. I know you and your friends have a thing."
She shook her head, "ya'll were pretty special. So special having all four of you, plus Tonks and I, and the Weasley Twins are making McGonagall go grey even quicker. I'm sad I won't have any classes with Padfoot, but it's probably for the best. He'd make my grades tank - Gonagall will have none of that.
As she keeps telling me, 'Rose, you need to focus like none of the barriers exist; excel, and we'll figure it out when it's time to cross those bridges'. She's such a doll, Minnie."
Rose smiles softly, "like a grandmother, she kinda just puts all under her wings, but also doesn't stop us from trying to fly either."

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 346 words commentary | He looked at her with a small sad smile. Auror. In another life – in another universe where she wasn’t cursed like he was, that would be possible, but he knew that wouldn’t be possible. Aurors would figure it out very quickly. After all, the hunted things like them, creatures like them.
“No.” His answer came immediately after she suggested it. His eyes had darkened, and he looked at her evenly. “It’s too dangerous. Just stay away from them, okay? It’s my job and I don’t need anyone else there – you’d – you’d just get in the way. You don’t know how it can be. How terrible things get there. Two don’t need to go through that when one can get the job done.” Not that a lot of them really were turning, but at least he had a few supporters in there. Plus, he was male, and there was a hierarchy structure within the pack – women weren’t usually treated as well.
“Severus? I expected him to purposefully assign things to upset you and right around that time. Then again, his subject doesn’t have anything to do with it. If he was in my position I’m sure you’d have written several essays about it. Either way, I’m a little bit surprised, but a good surprised.”
Remus looked at her with an amused look. He knew she wanted to spend time with him during that time, but he was also very wary – he hadn’t spent time with other werewolves except his time in the colonies, and sometimes that got violent. “Ah, no, not this time. Maybe another time. I’m just getting used to the potion… I don’t know how it will affect me so…” He chuckles nervously.
“McGonagall is a good professor. She might not seem like she likes Sirius, but I know she cares about him. And the rest of us. Though don’t let her hear you say grandmother, she might get angry because she’s not that old.” He paused and considered for a moment. “She is that old, but she might not want to think about that.”

She knew that was going to be his answer. Ever the self-sacrificing idiot. She wasn't going to argue it though. Still... "I just don't know what I'm going to do, Remus. If nothing changes. It's not like I can get a position in Dad's office. Hell, I'm still illegal as far as I know, and if they find out he hasn't registered me..." another heavy sigh.
"I'd really love to start a movement for the rights of ... those like us. Regulations that don't ostracize us, and such. Allow us to get jobs. Access to the things we need."
She closed her eyes to collect her self and emotions. "Well, okay. This is Snape; I'm probably giving him too much credit. But I think McGonagall won't let him treat me like shit just because I have the same last name. I assume he knows I would immediately report that sort of treatment. I get treated the same as any other student, heavy disdain."
She snickered, "But I, unlike a lot of students around here, show him a fair bit of kindness that I don't think he received very much. So he maaaay be a tad biased. I take full responsibility."
She frowned but understood. "Ok. Not this one, since you'll be getting used to having the potion. Maybe the next? You'll find it works really well! I've been taking it for years. I guess the only pity is its taste. Sugar makes it completely unusable; so even if I wanted to try to bake it into a chocolate cake or something... well... heh.
That was something I was talking to the twins to about, they have these sweets that have different potions in them; but, alas, wolfsbane is just one of those things it can't be done with, sadly. And before you think it, no, they don't know what I am. No one but the teachers do, and Madam Pomfrey, obviously."
Rose smiles, "I'm sure McGonagall loves all her students, past and present. Sirius just holds a special place in her heart."
She barks a laugh.

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 363 words commentary | If there was anyone in this world Remus felt bad for, it was Rose. She didn’t deserve this. She deserved every little bit of happiness that there was out there. He was supposed to be the one who held the burden, not her. It was supposed to be him who suffered, not her. This was exactly why he was angry at their parents. This happened because of them. All of this suffering she was going through, the fact she had very little future…
“That would be good I think. Part of the issues I’ve been facing is that they don’t believe me. ‘If you’re so sure, then why are you hiding it’, that sort of stuff.” He shook his head. “It will take a lot… I don’t think the change will happen in our lifetimes, but perhaps the next generation could live… happily.” He nods slightly and looks off to the side. It would be too much to ask for him to be treated fairly – but she had wolfsbane for her whole time as… well what they were. She didn’t have times when she nearly killed someone, or were just barely able to get to safety in time so she didn’t kill the entire school.
“To be honest, I’m glad you show him some kindness. I – I’ve always felt guilty about how my friends and I treated him – while I was never really first hand, I never stopped them or stood up to them about their treatment of him. So, I take full responsibility for his treatment while attending Hogwarts – if I had only stood up to them, perhaps he wouldn’t be quite so bitter.”
“Maybe next.” He nodded, his eyes drifting off thinking about it for a few moments. “I’m glad you’ve managed to keep it secret. It only took James, Sirius, and Peter a year and a half to figure it out. You’re better at making these excuses than I am.” He was never really creative when it came to things like that. Usually just a sick aunt or something like that.
“That shriveled up piece of her heart that sends stress through her body, but yes, I think so too.”
