"I seem to remember you finding quite a bit of parallels with yourself and that Dark Wizard, if I remember right. Wasn't part of his story about falling in love with a princess, which turned out to be his true love?"
Sirius gave a teasing wink. Right, he was going to drop that subject. Moving on. "Well, I would rather have you, then Snivellius teaching, that's for sure."
Sirius wrinkled his nose for a moment, scoffing. "Why Dumbledore even lets him teach here I'll never know. Not with his shaky loyalty."
Sirius found himself glaring down Remus, which was a very hard thing to do since he stood well over a foot above him, he sighed heavily. "Look, Remus, I know you're very selective about who you put your trust in; but she needs you. You share the curse; she knows no one else with it. She's trying to do her best on her own, but I can tell she needs you.
Pushing her away is going to make her angry, and frankly, I won't stop her when she hunts you down when she decides to kick your ass for treating her like this."
He shook his head, "I'm not saying to tell her what we're doing. Though, if you're right in saying she's got your brains - she's gonna figure it out regardless. Wouldn't it just be easier just to see what information she does have? If you're going to be polling students anyway. Might as well start with her, Tonks, and those twins. Minnie tells me they're worse than us when they're all working together."
A smirk. "And yes, she is different. She's definitely smarter than you."
Sirius gave a waggle of an eyebrow, "she's seventeen, Remus, next thing you know she'll be introducing to you to some Slytherin she decided to date."
Sirius gave a thoughtful look, "someone else has already knicked it. I've already checked Filch's office. First thing I did when I got here."

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 430 words commentary | Remus blushed slightly and lightly punched Sirius’s shoulder playfully. “Oh shut up. You know I haven’t even tried dating seriously.”
His eyes grew slightly darker at the mention of Snape’s ‘nickname’ dropping from Sirius’s mouth and he shook his head. “Sirius, you know you’re his peer right now. You can’t be calling him that. You have to be respectful – we’re not students anymore. He’s a professor and part of the Order… You don’t have to like him, but please, at least show some sort of courtesy while you’re here teaching.” Remus winced slightly, hoping he wouldn’t get yelled at for standing up like this – he was deathly afraid of losing his friends by saying something that would upset them. However, he had promised Rose he would speak to him.
“I – I know that. It’s just – hard.” He shakes his head and sighs, “You probably wouldn’t understand, but I’ve seen how we’re treated out there – I’ve known people like us who just want to live. And then, because of me, they were captured and sent to prison for not registering. I don’t want that to be her next.” Remus paused for a moment – he hadn’t ever told anyone about that time when he was a young boy, and while he trusted Sirius with his life, he didn’t know if he could tell him about it. What if Sirius hated him and ran away and Remus was alone again? He didn’t want to risk that.
“I’m not just going to go up to students and say ‘hey I’m looking for something…’ I mean, I plan to be a little bit subtler than that. A few questions here and there. Some posed as question while in class – I mean, artefacts are important to Defense Against the Dark Arts. Objects, cursed or charmed, can come up while fighting. I’m especially not going to ask the twins. They’re far too young. They might be trouble and remind you of us when we were going to school, but they should not come anywhere near this. It’s too dangerous.”
“I don’t deny the fact she is more intelligent… But I do possess experience that she lacks.” He nods.
When Sirius suggested she come home with some Slytherin, his eyes went wide, and a fist clenched at his side. “D-Don’t even joke about that. Sh-She’s too young for that! She might be seventeen b-but she’s still too young! I don’t want to think about her snogging some guy – or girl.”
“Ah, well, we can still keep an eye out for it. Hopefully its being put to good use.”

"Maybe you should," Sirius teased, smirking again. Once again completely forgetting he was going to drop that.
Sirius brow raied, however, as Remus scolded him for calling Snape, Snivellius. Problem was, however, Remus had a point, a point that had him sighing. He honestly hadn't even been around Snape since arriving here. Sure his 'office' was down there, but Sirius wasn't much for sticking to one place for very long. Unless he had actual work to do, which obviously wasn't a thing for the first day back.
"All right, all right. You're right. As much as I'm going to hate giving him an inch, I'll do it for you Moony. And maybe even Rose. Now that we're having this conversation, if I remember right, that's what that Lily-like glare was for!"
Sirius barked a laugh.
Sirius put his hand on Remus' shoulder, squeezing softly. "I know, friend, I know. But you're her brother, Moony. She loves you and looks up to you and she wants to know you. Leading a lone wolf life is a very depressing life to lead."
Another sigh, "well don't come to me when she flays you for not telling her anything. I'm sure her patience has a stopping point. I still think she might know things."
He gave a shrug and then snickered. At least the overprotective brother part of Remus was still functioning correctly. "Still too young? You do realize James and Lily were married like a year after we left here, right?
Seventh year, final year at Hogwarts, not to mention that little attribute she gets from her mom, right? She's got to have suitors lined up!"
Sirius gave a huge grin, "you can't fight 'em all of Remus."
He gave a thoughtful look. "Hm, yeah. Hopefully whoever has it now has been up to no good."
He snickered again.

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 327 words commentary | “Or not.”
Remus sighed in relief as Sirius agreed. The tension in his body that had built up from the worry of Sirius hating him for it had released a bit and he looked a little bit less worried about everything in general. There was at least one thing lifted off his back.
Remus shook his head and chuckled. “Well, I’m glad. Just try to be civil with Severus. I would rather not have to break up a fight between the two of you. It would give the students the wrong idea I think.”
Sighing, Remus looked at his shoulder where Sirius had his hand and bit his lower lip. He knew it was depressing – he knew he didn’t want that. He knew that he wanted to be loved and considered a friend by all. He craved affection. Yet he knew he didn’t deserve it. He remembered the faces of those who had been taken in because of him – as they were dragged away, and he was dragged back home. The guilt sank deeply into him “I’m not alone. I have you, and James, and Peter.” Even if he longed to be loved by Rose, his blood, his family, his sister. “She has her own life. It wouldn’t do anyone any good if I screwed that up for her.”
“I said don’t even! It’s not the same. James and Lily weren’t my little sister!” He shook his head and ran a hand down his face trying very hard not to think of Rose in any sort of romantic relationship. “I’ll try. I’ll fight them all if I have to. Don’t doubt me.” He looks at him seriously.
Remus laughed thinking about the map – he really hoped their work did help someone out – though he wondered if they should’ve kept it. After all it would prove to be useful now – or to Dumbledore. Luckily their safeguards would prevent those who were dark from using it for bad deeds.

"Civil, or just avoid as much as I can," Remus really did have a point. "I'll do my best."
He meant it, of course. But it wouldn't be his fault if Snape provoked him. Seriously.
"Yes, you do have us. But I was talking about Rose. She hasn't been as lucky. Sure she has Tonks, but even I don't think Tonks has a clue. We've been there; you live it every day Moony."
Sirius sighed again, running a hand through his hair. It was talking to a brick wall. He honestly was not going to help when she decided to cast a few well-placed hexes.
Sirius chuckled, at least the topic of Rose put some life in his face. Though, Sirius wondered why he was so protective of her for such a thing. Was it because of what she was? Or simply just because she was his precious little sister? Perhaps a bit of both.
Sirius was in agreeance though. A werewolf dating especially one as pretty as Rose was a bit of a sticky situation. Heartbreak was imminent. It was probably best...
Then again, that was a Remusism if there ever was one.

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 139 words commentary | He considered for a few moments what Sirius meant by that. Rose was lonely? She seemed so happy in his office – she seemed so chipper and… well, normal. Then again, she was his sister. What did he expect? He looked at Sirius with a guilty, sad sort of look and swallowed before quickly looking away. This was his fault wasn’t it? She wasn’t happy because of him.
“Sirius I –“ He wasn’t even sure what he should say in response for it. Not only was he a failure in life, he was a failure of a brother. “What should I do?” Looking to him with sad puppy dog eyes, he needed guidance – he might not take it, but he really needed to hear what Sirius thought. “How am I supposed to… make up for all the time we’ve lost?”

Ah. It finally occurred to him that, like Remus himself, Rose would be hiding behind a mask to hide her feelings. So other people didn't worry. Sirius was glad that point finally got through. He flinched slightly at how sad Remus sounded, but this would be better; Remus would see.
"Well..." Sirius said swallowing. "If I know Rose, she isn't going to hold you being busy with the order against you. So you can stop the guilt train right there."
Sirius chuckled. "And like I suggested before, just get together with her a couple of times a week. And I'm sure she really would love to enjoy a full moon with you."
He levels Remus with a look. "And I know you're nervous about that. So we'll see how this month goes with you having the potion; and then perhaps the next she can join us. I've been curious to see what she looks like anyway."
A waggle of an eyebrow to lighten the mood. "Just, anything! I'm sure she'd be opening to anything, even if it as simple as reading a book together!"
He snickered. "Just anything to get her out of Sni-" He cleared his throat. "Professor Snape's office. She hangs out down there way too much."

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 252 words commentary | Throughout what Sirius was saying, Remus kept hitting himself internally. He should’ve been there for her. He should’ve been a better influence. He should’ve known what was going on. And yet it took Sirius telling him for him to realize that she was lonely. She didn’t deserve that. She deserved happiness. He was supposed to be the only one who was like that, and only when he was off on a solo mission because otherwise he had the Marauders.
“Well first of all, if she enjoys Severus’s company, it isn’t for us to judge. Well, so long as he doesn’t lead her towards the Dark Arts,” Ah yes, he was still a bit wary of Snape when it came to that sort of stuff – but Dumbledore trusted him, so Remus would too. It wouldn’t stop him from talking about it with his friends though. He trusted that Snape wouldn’t turn against them, and that he was no longer a Death Eater – not that he had completely sworn off the dark arts.
“Secondly, it wouldn’t do well if the potion was brewed incorrectly one month and I ended up hurting her – though I will admit, you guys being there does help calm me down. It’s still a risk, and I don’t know if I am willing to take it. I trust Severus is a good potion’s master, well not just good, great, but even the greatest make mistakes occasionally. Or perhaps he’ll want to get revenge for… what happened in our sixth year.”

"How could anyone enjoying being in that-" he could feel Remus eyes on him and Sirius sighed. "Even if he tried, I don't think she would follow. In fact, she'd probably get after him for even falling down that dark path. Lily had just been dissapointed, Rose would do something about it. I'm sure of it. As I said, Rose is smarter than you and perhaps a better judge of character than any of us was."
That was honestly high praise; Sirius still didn't like Snape, but if Rose could tolerate him and Rose was apparently them all combined into one beautiful girl; well, he had to admit that somewhere, he'd probably judged Snape wrong. If he, himself, could get some sort of redemption story, couldn't Snape?
But that was enough mature thinking.
"If he had wanted to sabotage you, he would've started with your sister, Remus. I think her being around him has changed him; and plus, she won't let him do such a thing, because, in the same hand, he would be endangering her, right? And you know, werewolves are very trust-driven creatures. Even I can see there's a fair bit of trust between the two of them."
Even if it was the strangest thing to witness.

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 198 words commentary | Remus chuckled slightly. There wasn’t anything wrong with treating Severus like he was a person – even if she spent a little more time than he thought she needed in there from what he understood. Even still, he was a little bit worried, but he wouldn’t let Sirius know that. It wasn’t that big of a deal anyways – he trusted Dumbledore, Dumbledore trusted Snape, so he trusted Snape. At least when it came to his intentions.
“Well, that’s true. Rose isn’t a pushover. Though I would sincerely hope that he doesn’t like Rose like he liked Lily… I’m sure you noticed the way he looked at Lily while we were at school…” He shivered at the thought. “He’s mature enough to know that isn’t appropriate.” Says Mr. Cousin Dater. Even still, he didn’t think it was a problem – Severus was too caught up on Lily anyways.
“I do hope that he… gets along with her. I think she would be a positive influence. I know I could never be – the bad blood runs too deep. I just… hope the best for him. Can’t blame me for worrying about my little sister hanging out with an ex-Death Eater, can you?”

Sirius chuckled nodding, "I would hope he wouldn't... find himself obsessing over Rose like he did Lily, but I wouldn't blame him for liking Rose at all."
Dropping that subject there before he got punched. "I agree with the positive influence. Rose just seems to be a constant beacon of light in dark times. You, Me, Tonks, Snape.
Your sister is a wonderful person. And while, no, I don't blame you, I think you should just have a little more trust in her."

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 250 words commentary | Remus’s face darkened for a minute. “He better not.” If there was any time that Remus sounded deadly serious, it was right at this moment. His voice was low and sounded almost like he was some sort of animal ready to pounce. However, Sirius had the brains to drop that subject, and Remus’s face brightened up.
“You know its not that I don’t trust her. I don’t trust other people. I don’t trust those people not to hurt her. Even myself, I don’t trust myself to not hurt her. I’m sure I’ve hurt her many times before. I just hope… I can do what I can to make her happy. It’s just… I trust you. I trust you have her best interests at heart – and Tonks, but – well, we all know how Severus can be. He can aim for the places that hurt the most and before you know it, you’re a sobbing mess on the floor of the Gryffindor Common Room with your friends crowded around you promising they would make sure he paid for what he did to you.”
Ouch. Perhaps that one hit Remus a little bit close to home. Possibly remembering one time in their seventh year where there was a bit of a verbal fight, which Remus insisted he didn’t start nor tried to participate in – one where he tried to leave as fast as he could but the other party wouldn’t let him… but then again that could be the bias of his recollection.

Gee, that was quite a bit of whiplash there Remus, One moment all, 'oh she'll be a good influence on him' and the next second all, 'if he touches her I'll kill him'. Sirius sighed. He wasn't going to lie, the thought was a bit amusing.
Then again, Remus would probably kill anyone who touched his kid sister.
"Well, while the overprotective big brother act is very adorable on you Remus, I'm sure she would appreciate the learning experiences."
He sighed, noting he touched a nerve. "What happened to her being a good influence, now?"
Sirius put a hand to Remus' shoulder. "Look Mom; we know how Severus was. Rose has been here for the last six year, being administered the potion by him, every month. If he had honestly wanted to get back at you, he had the perfect opportunity to do so."
Why was he being the logical one now?
"Rose is right, we need to put our school boy prejudices away. And that includes you, old friend."

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 235 words commentary | Remus ran a hand down his face. Why was Sirius giving him a lecture about Snape? He seemed to remember a boy who had tried to kill the man in question by luring him to his friend who was currently a werewolf, as it was the full moon, and only then James was able to stop it. And he was lecturing him over this?
Remus stop it. You’ve moved on from that. You’ve forgiven him for that. Or at least pushed on. A lot of time had passed since then. He knew it, and yet, those years were so powerful for him, they guided everything he had done – the last several years it was a bunch of fighting, getting captured twice even, and going undercover with the werewolves. They all seemed to blur together, but his school years were easier to deal with, allowing himself to forget some of the things he’d seen in the war.
“Look, I’m fine with the two of them hanging out – making potions together. Just not making out. Merlin’s saggy pants! I don’t want to think of my sister doing that with anyone, especially not him. There’s one thing of being a good influence, and another shacking up. So please, can we drop this? They’re just a professor and student, nothing more. I don’t need to get paranoid and start stalking them to make sure that is all it is.”

Sirius rose one finely detailed eyebrow into his hair, smirking like he'd just caught a rat.
"Moony, Moony, Moony," he chuckled. "I think you've got yourself too hot of a head there."
And he promptly pushed him into the lagoon.
Victory! He'd been working up to that this entire time. "But quite honestly, you go stalking her for anything Rowling knows you'll get more than saggy pants."
