i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 399 words commentary Guess who started an open thread?!? That's right it's me! | Remus found himself in the Grindylow Lagoon, where he sat against a wall looking out into the little creatures swirling in the water below. Grindylow were never really tamed, but these ones here had been injured and therefore they needed to be cared for. They seemed to understand this and let humans near in order to help care for them, though if one got too close during feeding time, the grindylows might just try to eat the hand that was feeding it.
It was after the first day of class, and while it went well, he found himself not used to the amount of people he had used to be around daily. He felt he needed a time to himself. Even while the Grindylows were semi-intelligent, it wasn’t like they were… people. Then again, when he looked into the lagoon, catching the eye of a couple of the creatures, he couldn’t help but feel a little bit of comradery with them.
They were only a class 2 dangerous creature to the ministry, though that was mostly because the merpeople tended to be able to tame them, and these ones here were the closest humans ever came, and that was only because they had been near death. He was a class 4 dangerous creature, worse than they were, and yet he had a mind for most of the time. He had intelligence and understanding and didn’t attack people willy nilly. He was hoping the wolfsbane potion he had tried for the first time earlier for this month’s transformation would be worth all of the pain and worry about coming here this year.
“Hey, is Bert there still?” Remus spoke aloud, even if the creatures couldn’t hear him. Back when he went to the school he would sometimes retreat here in order to get away and just have a place to relax. One of those times he had helped one of the grindylows out as it was getting attacked. He named the creature Bert. It wasn’t like he could tell the difference between them either, so he had no idea. They just kept swimming around. He chuckled and let his head rest against the stone wall behind him.
Things were going to finally start looking up. They just had to find that thing Dumbledore needed them to find. Then it would be all over, right? Or at least… closer to over.

Sirius has been feeling rather jolly about himself. Teaching was fun! Though, most of his lessons dissolved into how to sneak around Minnie... which she was not very happy about at all. How was he supposed to know that as he darted off after her in animagus form she would turn into a cat? It had been very amusing for his students, that was for sure.
Two of them were his favourite already - after hearing about them from McGonagall, and interacting with them today in class, he knew they were going to be his best pupils ever. He had returned from chasing after Minnie and the two, which were Gryffindors and Weasleys by the way - twins, for all intents and purposes - applauded his returned and asked him a dozen questions on how to continue to annoy Minnie.
Gonagall was in for it now.
And she couldn't even put him in detention anymore!
Feeling he needed to recollect the story to Remus he had first visited his office up on the third floor, finding it empty. He had searched his memory for a moment to figure out where else he could've gone - with it not being a full moon and all - and deduced he may be on the second floor.
And he was right!
He sat near the Grindylow Lagoon, looking pensively into it.
"Look, old friend, I don't know what they're trying to tell you, but whatever it is, it's not good."

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 257 words commentary | Remus wasn’t really surprised by the appearance of Sirius. In fact, he welcomed it – while he was a little overwhelmed by how many people he was around, Sirius had always seemed to make him happy… not just Sirius, the other Marauders too, but Sirius tended to make him laugh a bit more. Despite his mood, he even chuckled at Sirius’s comment, deciding that he too should make a joke of some sort. Now it was a matter of making Sirius laugh in return.
“Are you sure? They’re telling me things I think you’d like.” He chuckled darkly and stood up looking directly at Sirius. “Oh that guy who walked in is so handsome. And then the one who came in after is nice too, I suppose.” Remus rubbed the back of his neck and ran a hand through his slightly graying hair.
Thinking for a moment, taking a short pause, Remus remembered that Sirius too was teaching, which was really their whole cover for being here at Hogwarts. After all, it was still a part of the fight. To be perfectly honest, he knew Sirius would enjoy it, just being back at Hogwarts, though he was worried he might go stir crazy knowing there were still Death Eaters out there hurting people, though not as badly as they had before. Remus felt it was only a matter of time before they came back harder than ever. “You have a good day? Did you meet those twins? They remind me of you and James back in the day.”

Smirking, Sirius went to stand by Remus, eyeing the Lagoon. "Oh, are they?"
He chuckled, "well, of course, they're talking about me. I am the handsome one."
Sirius gave Remus back a great pat. "It was a good day and I did indeed get to meet the twins."
A mischevious smile crossed Sirius' face. "I believe the three of us are going to become great friends, those twins and I."

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 217 words commentary | Remus crossed his arms looking to him with a stern look. He had always been the one in the group that was the mother, the one who tried to hold them back from going too far. Sometimes he felt bad because he would be the killjoy, but at the same time, he knew the limits of things – luckily Sirius wasn’t crossing them yet, otherwise he’d have to have a sit down, but for now it was just being level with him.
“You’re not here to make friends, Sirius. They’re your students, you know? You need to be professional. Nurture them, yes. Befriend them? They’re way too young to be your friend, Sirius. Maybe in a decade or two. Just keep in mind we’re not in school anymore. We’re professors and we have a job to do here behind the whole professor thing.” He glanced to the Grindylow lagoon and almost felt bad for them for being held here – but they couldn’t survive anywhere else. That was a little sad, and he wished they could be free and live like they were supposed to, but it was impossible.
“I had a good day too. However, I didn’t realize I wasn’t quite used to the… amount of people here anymore.” He chuckled nervously rubbing the back of his neck.

"Yes mom," replied Sirius, his voice swaying.
He chuckled, "you're really taking the whole professor thing seriously aren't you? I guess you would. Since one of your students is your graduating sister huh?"
Sirius smiled, "you must be proud. Seeing her succeed so much. A lot could change in this year, you know. We find whatever... we need to find, Voldemort gets defeated, it would change the lives of everyone in our world.
But I think it would change yours and your sisters lives the most, to be able to live free, you know?"
Sirius patted Remus on the shoulder. "There does seem to be more kids here than there were when we were here. And that wasn't that long ago. I got to see Nymphadora today too, only in passing. She's grown up so much from the last time I saw her."

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 258 words commentary | Remus reached out and ruffled Sirius’s hair. “Such a great son, listening to me.” He barked a laugh and shook his head.
“Of course I am taking it seriously. It’s the futures of these students – you get to teach them while they’re younger so its not as big of a deal, but I have to prepare them for their OWLs and NEWTs.” He shook his head and looked at Sirius with a serious expression. “And you know I’ve always liked teaching anyways. If it weren’t for… well you know, I’d like to be a full-time professor.” He had gestured to his face, though he was positive Sirius would get it
“I want that world for her, and for everyone else. But… I don’t think it’ll be too much better for people like me and her. There’s just too much prejudice going around. Rightfully so in many cases – there are a lot of monsters out there, but the prejudice is pushing them to become those monsters.” He shook his head and sighed slightly. He felt really bad for other werewolves – they hadn’t the chances he got. He was lucky and found friends who didn’t care about it – who weren’t afraid of what he was. But even then, he could feel the prejudices from others – though the world didn’t know in general what he was, otherwise he wouldn’t be able to work here.
“Nymphadora is in my classes. She’s – well, she’s definitely grown up into a beautiful young woman. And she takes after her dear old cousin – trouble, she is.”

Sirius pulled away, running his fingers through his now mussed hair.
"Yeah, I get the fun ones, not quite worrying about the future, but most definately up for some fun. Like the twins."
Sirius' eyes sparkled mischievously.
Sirius sighed though as Remus gestured to his face. This was true, it was still going to be difficult for him, and his sister, but Sirius had a hope that defeating Voldemort would do something at least.
"I'm sure something will work out, after all this, I'm sure Dumbledore will invite you back - regardless of anybody who says otherwise."
At the mention of Nymphadora, Sirius brow raised into his hair. "Beautiful young lady, hmm? That's a very astute observation from one of her professors."

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 207 words commentary | Remus laughed seeing him running a hand through his hair. He was reminded of when James would mess up his hair because he thought it was cool. Ah, the good memories.
“It very much matches the type of professor you’re going to be. The best way to get to the younger students is to make it fun. Dumbledore is quite a wise man.” Other than letting you teach, but that wasn’t a huge deal. He was sure Sirius would have them learn – plus he was pretty good at Transfiguration as well. Remus himself was really good at Charms, but they needed a Defense teacher fairly badly since last year’s professor left and there was two positions for each class now.
“I wouldn’t ask that of him. Do you have any idea how many parents would fuss if they found out? So many people would be taken out of school. I wouldn’t accept a position if people knew about it. It would be more trouble than I’m worth.” Ah ha! Even with his friends he had some of his Remusisms still around.
Remus stared at Sirius for several moments, trying to comprehend exactly what he meant. That wasn’t inappropriate right? Then he laughed and shook his head. “Not like that. Though, she is pretty. Just like Lily is pretty. And you’re pretty.” Good cover. “Not only is she a student, she’s your cousin, and I’m – well, you know.”

"Well, my classes will be the most fun. You and Snape can be boring with your essays and stuff," Sirius snickered. Minnie would probably reel him in and force him to actually get his students to do some sort of actual work, but for the first couple of weeks, he felt like being hands on as much as possible. Honestly, if he could teach himself, along with his three other friends to become Animagus, why couldn't anyone else? Regardless of their age.
Beatles to pins was old hat.
Sirius chuckled. "If anyone has any complaints, well, sucks for them. You're going to be brilliant Moony. These kids are gonna love you. And you're more than worth the trouble. You know this."
At Remus' stare, Sirius gave a waggle of his eyebrow. "Her being my cousin really isn't an issue and you know that. I have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot of her. She and Rose seem joined at the hip; at least as much as a Gryffindor and a Hufflepuff can be."

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 263 words commentary | Remus chuckled. At least he didn’t call him Snivellus. That was progress. Good progress. Especially since those two had offices near each other. Though, Remus had a feeling he was going to have to stop a few fights this year between them. However, it was a good sign, so maybe everything wouldn’t end up too bad between those two.
“Oh, I don’t think it’s boring. I like to keep my classes practical. I was thinking of asking Dumbledore to reinstate the dueling club, so students could get used to it – if we don’t finish this war soon, these kids will be fighting alongside us, so they should be prepared.” Or they could be fighting against them. And that would be extremely difficult for him to fight students of his – it was hard enough to fight his classmates as it was or other werewolves.
“I’m not worth the school shutting down and many kids going to Durmstrang or Beauxbatons and not being able to be under Dumbledore’s guidance. He’s a better influence than I could ever be. He’s more important, and you know it. He’s more important than all of us.” Even if he was in a weakened state because of Voldemort’s duel. In some ways it was a race to see who recovered quickest.
“It’s not like that Sirius, Nymphadora is a student. Plus, I barely know her. Plus, I’m a werewolf. Who would want to be with a werewolf?” He shook his head. “I’m glad she and Rose became friends – in a lot of ways they remind me of you and me.”

Sirius grinned, "your students just love to listen to you drone, don't they?"
He was teasing, obviously, his eyebrow twitched into his hair at the words ' duelling club'. "Really now? The duelling club? Aren't we supposed to be looking for something? Where are you finding all this free time?"
Another laugh, "if you have free time, you should honestly be spending it with your sister. She's been rather patient with you know, especially that last stint where you sent next to no letters. You know she's worried when I'm actually replying to her."
Sirius gave a sad chuckle, "okay, okay, cool it with your Remusisms. It because of Dumbledore I think the whole thing would swing in your favour. Once this is said and done with, don't you think people would overlook the furry little problem with the things you've done?"
Sirius shook his head. "Yes, of course. She's only your student for a few more months."
Another brow waggle. "They kinda do. Though, Rose has a lot of Lily about her too... she gave me this look the other day. I don't even teach her! It made me feel like I had gotten my hand caught in the cookie jar. I don't even remember what I had been doing."

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 419 words commentary | “I don’t drone!” He knew he was teasing but he was playing along. “Either way, I’ve been hoping I could teach them the patronus this year, since they’re getting up there – while they likely wouldn’t be able to do a corporeal one, its worth it just in case… well you know, the ministry loses control of the dementors. I would find my class extremely fun if I were taking it.” That’s because you’re teaching it the way you like it to be taught. Though he did hope his students would like him.
“She knows why I couldn’t – I was busy. It wouldn’t look well if I just spent all of my free time with her, people might think I’ll be biased or something like that. I don’t plan on avoiding her or not doing anything – its just… well, we have a job here, and with the club I would essentially try to gain intel from the students themselves on ‘magical objects important to the founders and where they would be’ as well as fulfilling my secondary objective of preparing them for the future.”
Remus crossed his arms. Remusisms? Was that what he was calling ‘logical deduction’ nowadays? He shook his head looking to Sirius seriously. “No. They wouldn’t.” It was short and to the point, but of course Remus had to add to it because he just loved to argue about this. Good job Remus. “It doesn’t work like that. I have a contagious disease, a curse that can cause me to lose control so while yes, they might think Remus as a person is alright, the beast inside needs to be killed.” In a way, they were one in the same, but he didn’t want to admit it. He suppressed it so much. “That, and I’m breaking the law given how I’m not registered.”
Remus gave him a look that said ‘really’ in a very sarcastic way. “Sirius, she’s my student for a year. She’s also a human being. No one would want to be with some… thing like me. You, James, Peter, and Lily are the only exceptions, but its not like I tie you down - you can leave any time unlike if I were to get into a romantic entanglement.”
“Well, she does have a lot of Lily in her too. She’s honestly quite amazing all things considered. Shove all of us into one person and you get Rose. She’s got my brains, my condition, your penchant for trouble, James’s loyalty, Peter’s flair, Lily’s glare.”

I don't drone!
Sirius rolled his eyes at Remus chuckling. "Sureeee, of course not. You send me to sleep faster than Binns does on his fourth iteration on the Ogre Wars."
Sirius snickered, "but Professor Lupin, we're not trying to be their friends. We're their teachers. Sounds like to me your trying to be impressive."
He sighed shaking his head. "I know she knows, even more, a reason to use the time you've got here. All I'm saying is if you have the time to run some extracurricular activity, you can give her a night or two a week. Either that or I feel like she'll just inject herself into your life."
He clapped a hand to Remus' shoulder. "People won't think you're being biased when she shows up with the same scroll of essays as everyone else, done up perfectly, even after a sick week."
Honestly, excuse after excuse. Sirius wanted to shake some sense into him or something. His eyes fell to the lagoon again. "And plus, who else do you think would know this school better than a Marauder's little sister? Did you ever contemplate that? How much intel she might have to share?"
Sirius waggled an eyebrow, "she's probably got as much knowledge and know-how as we did when we were here. Short of having the map itself. Which would also be really nice to recover. She might have even seen that."
More Remusisms. This argument was like arguing with a brick wall. "You know that not everyone shares the same sentiments about...that.. as your father once did."
His eyes narrowed, "do you share the same sentiments for your sister? Cause if I was just a couple years younger, your sister would've had definitely been someone I'd be interested in. Curse or not."
He was saying this to get a reaction now. He wondered if he even registered what he was saying. Condemning his self to a monster, condemned his sister as well.
"That said, I wonder if the map would recognize her if she tried to use it."
Sirius chuckled, "and that glare is scary!"

i will break the spell you put on me | everywhere i go, i am spellbound; you cannot have this control on me | 429 words commentary | “Hey, I liked the Ogre Wars.” Of course you would Remus. “Especially how it ended with that dark wizard. I always found it interesting how a dark wizard basically ended up saving the wizards from the ogres because his son was going to be sent off into the war.” Really gave a new perspective on dark wizards – they had families and feelings too. They weren’t all Voldemort level evil.
He chuckles and then looks at Sirius with a slightly guilty look. “I – I mean… I want to be a good professor, you know?” And for them to like me. “If they like me, they’re more likely to listen to me when I teach, right?” Either that or it was his needy side that needed people to like him, his desperation to be loved and accepted – though it wouldn’t be as bad if he didn’t have the marauders.
“Well, even still, I’m sure several people will think it no matter what she does – I’d rather not add fuel to that fire. N-Not that I won’t spend time with her – it’s just…” He was afraid she would learn to hate him the more they spent together, especially given his history with not contacting her. It wasn’t because he didn’t care about her, it was more that he was busy and forgot. He wasn’t really used to dealing with people in general – well people who weren’t his fellow marauders.
“We’re not asking her. None of us, got that? I’m not going to drag her into this. If you ask, don’t make it obvious, okay? If You-Know-Who finds out what we’re doing, anyone involved would get in trouble – I won’t make her more of a target, got that? Leave her out of it completely.” Overprotective brother much?
Remus leveled with Sirius looking at him with a frustrated look. “It’s just different. She’s different. She can have a life – she’s got the potion, she never had to worry about… the things I did. I might have the potion for now – while I’m here, but.” He shook his head. “What if it doesn’t work for me? This will be the first time and I –“ He stopped. He could feel his hands shaking slightly from the fright. “It’s just different, okay Sirius? Don’t talk about my sister like that either. It’s hard enough picturing her hanging out with boys, but being with a boy? Dear god.”
“I would hope it would. It was a very cool piece of magic we put together – I wonder if Filch still has it or if someone nicked it yet.”
