◣◆◢ words 339 | It was day one and here Charlie was, prefect, looking at the forest longingly. He had snuck into the forest many times over his career here at Hogwarts, though he hadn’t been caught because he was clever enough to avoid detection as a general rule. Hagrid had been one of his best friends here at school – they both loved creatures and Charlie even supported Hagrid wanting a dragon – though not illegally… okay illegally if that was the only way to do it. But he didn’t want his friend to get in trouble. So other animals that were easier to hide in the forest were the best for Hagrid, while Charlie had plans to run off and play with dragons for his whole life.
He wondered if Aragogg was calmed down enough not to try to eat him. Charlie had gotten used to it, but it didn’t prevent him from paying a visit to the large spider every once and awhile. He always got away without hurting any of his children badly and had a lot of fun with it – Aragogg was a fountain of wisdom Charlie had found. Then again, the centaurs would be hilariously fun to talk to as well – he’d made some friends with the centaurs despite being a human as well. He was a good listener and loved learning from them – other creatures were amazing and full of different kinds of wisdom, even those that were considered ‘wild’.
Like dragons. They were considered wild, but if one studied them they were fascinating creatures. The way they acted, the way they fought and hunted, everything they did, it had a lot of value and made him understand the world a little bit better. Not to mention he fact dragons were really amazing.
Charlie sighed, laying down on the ground and putting his hands under his chin while he stared at the forest. Should he go in? Should he go visit the creatures in there and risk getting caught? Or was it too risky on the first day?

Nymphadora "Don't call me that" Tonks was on a mission.
Okay, not really. But Rose was around here somewhere; she had seen her walk think way earlier. Of course, she had been way behind her, so who knows what direction she had gone at that point, but nevertheless, she was on a mission to find her. It was funny how easily that girl seemed to appear and disappear on the grounds and within the castle. It's like she always had some secret way. Popping up behind her and scaring the bejesus out of her. Which is not a very good idea, for Tonks, as she usually ended up tripping and sprawled on the ground.
However, Tonks' attention was diverted as she sighted the Weasley in the grass looking longingly into the forest. part of her wondered what he was thinking, at least until the trickster part of her brain caught up to her.
Chuckling, she made quick work of changing into McGonagall, swishing across the grass. "Mr Weasley, what, may I ask, are you doing out here?"
He hoped she wasn't given away by the minute twitch of her lip as she tried to keep McGonagall's stare stern.

◣◆◢ words 233 | Charlie quickly snapped out of his daydreaming. He jumped up to his feet, his long red hair whooshing around his face. He quickly pushed it out of his eyes and smoothed it over looking at the professor with a worried look. It wouldn’t do any good for the star quidditch player and prefect of Gryffindor to be caught thinking about sneaking into the forest on his first day in his seventh year.
“Oh, hello professor! I was just watching the forest. I was wondering what sort of classes Professor Kettleburn would be holding this year and… well then I started thinking about dragons…” His eyes glazed over for a moment thinking about dragons – a Hungarian Horntail would be amazing to train. Their beautiful scales, their strong will. He was practically drooling over the thought, though literally he wasn’t. Quickly shaking his head to snap back into it, he chuckled nervously.
“If you don’t mind me asking, professor, what are you doing out here? I don’t see you very often walking the grounds.” He was curious, though he bet it was just her trying to make sure no first year or other kid thinking it was fine to sneak into the forest because it was the first day… pretty much exactly what he was thinking, though it not being the first day and it leading to detention later didn’t stop him in the past…

Tonks had to try really damn hard not to start cackling at the way Charlie jumped to his feet. Look stern and disapproving, Tonks! Just a few more minutes of making him squirm.
She focused a stern gaze onto the seventh year, "Well, as you know, your twin brothers have a penchant for trouble. I was making sure neither of them was starting early.
But it seems I was a few moments too late. As my prefect as already seen to the forest."

◣◆◢ 225 words
| Charlie was sweating – did she know his plans? Did she suspect him? After all, he had snuck in many times before to work with the animals without the professors knowing. He had an inkling they knew but they weren’t able to catch him because he’d be told before that there was a lot of dangerous creatures in the forest and no one should go in without supervision a few times over his career. He listened, he just ignored the advice.
“Of course, Professor! I know my brothers can be… ah… troublesome. I’d rather not see them get in trouble on their first day! It’s better to catch them before they do something that could get them hurt.” Or at least watch them while they did it so he could protect them if it arose – controlling those twins was hard enough as it was.
While he loved his family, he also knew he was going to be going off on his on once he graduated, and he didn’t know how much he’d get to see them after that. So, it was better to spend this last year here making sure to take care of his brothers while he still had a chance. Maybe he could rub off on them and make them stop acting out! That was just wishful thinking, Charlie knew that would never happen.

Tonks stared Charlie down through McGonagall's gaze and nearly snickered.
Actually, that was a lie, she actually did snicker and the guise fell immediately and she broke into full-blown giggles.
She just couldn't bother being that stern anymore. She held onto it for at least a few minutes at that time, at least.
She shook her head, still sniggering slightly. "You couldn't tell it was me at all? I must've gotten better over the summer!"

◣◆◢ words 149 | The sight of Professor McGonagall laughing like that was almost hilarious to Charlie – he quickly understood what was happening when she broke character, though he hadn’t really gotten it before the character break. It wasn’t like he was the most observant person in the world – unless one counted when he was on his broom and flying through the air for Quidditch.
“Of course its you, Tonks.” Charlie laughed shaking his head. He wasn’t going to get that image of McGonagall laughing like that out of his head ever again. “You should be careful with that, who knows if McGonagall could walk right up behind you while you’re at it. It’d be a shame if you had to have detention on your first day.” You’re one to talk Charlie, thinking about going into the forest like that.
“You’ve definitely improved a lot, Tonksy!” He laughed giving her a quick hug.

"That would be my luck, wouldn't it?"
She looked behind herself just in case and sighed when the place was clear. "It would be a shame, but honestly not very unexpected. Giving us a free day right before classes is just asking for trouble."
Tonks gave a shrug before returning the hug. "I'm glad I've improved. Something's gotta work out because there's no way a person as clumsy as me is going to be able to pass the stealth portion of the Auror exams, so all my other skills will need to excel."
She smiled. "I was following Rose this way, you didn't happen to see that gorgeous housemate of your pass by did you?"
Probably not, by the look on his face when she first arrived, he had been thinking about dragons again.

◣◆◢ words 295 | Charlie laughed when she looked behind her just in case. Of course, he would’ve warned her if McGonagall was there – but then again, maybe he wouldn’t if he was too distracted by his thoughts of dragons or wanting to get back at her for pulling something like this on him. However, he did have a good sense of humor and so he wasn’t angry at it – plus she was using her talents and training them so she could be a good auror in the future!
“Well, it leaves us a little bit of time to settle in and have a bit of fun, though I’m sure Filch is having a great time with that.”
Charlie had an idea when she mentioned the stealth parts of her auror exam. He patted her back and then put an arm around her shoulders. “You know, I might know a pair of twins who have gotten really good at sneaking up on people lately…”
It was true. After about a term of school, they had suddenly gotten really good at sneaking around. They weren’t caught as much, though they were just as much trouble, if not even more than they had been before. Charlie wasn’t exactly sure how they had gotten so good. Once he caught them giggling at an old piece of paper at the end of their first year, but he had just let it be. If they were happy, and they weren’t actually causing too much harm to their fellow students, who was he to stand in their way? Oh right. A prefect. Oh well.
“Uh, no. I didn’t see her. But I was just thinking about the Antipodean Opaleye. Did you know one of the males migrated to Australia and killed a bunch of kangaroos?”

"Oh, yes, giving students a free day right before classes start? Brilliant. He must be having a grand ol time, indeed."
She chuckled and rolled her eyes. "Those two brothers of yours are Rose's and I's arch enemy! You must tell me their secrets!"
She laughed, but Charlie had a point. They had gotten rather good at randomly appearing around the castle. Tonks wondered how they were doing it and if they would share.
She sighed and shook her head, "I swear Charles... Rose is like the most beautiful girl in your year and your mind is on dragons."
She really didn't need to know about the murder of kangaroos via dragon, but, alas, she had that knowledge supplied to her anyways.
"Well, as her prefect would you help me find her anyways? Or shall I leave you to contemplate going into the forest further and McGonagall taking that shiny badge from you?"

◣◆◢ words 279 | Charlie chuckled. “I’m surprised he isn’t chasing you down. Cooled down on your pranks for the day? Or just having fun impersonating professors? Ooooo, you should do Snape next. That would be hilarious.” And here he was, a prefect, suggesting that his friend impersonate a professor that would get her in trouble if she was caught. He was such a good influence.
“I know, I don’t know what they’re up to, but whatever it is, they’re getting really good at it. Maybe they’ve made a map of Hogwarts or something – found some passages that are fun, you know, stuff like that.” He could see his brothers giggling over a map they made themselves, charmed so only specific people could read it or something like that. Then again, they were 12, not quite up there with abilities to perform powerful magic like that.
“Eh? She is?” Honestly, he hadn’t really noticed Rose’s good looks. “I dunno, I think a Hungarian Horntail is sexier. Have you seen their horns?” Charlie. Stop it. But he didn’t stop it and shook his head with a laugh. “I mean, I guess she’s pretty, but I never really noticed before. I’m more interested in dragons than checking out pretty girls. You know, like how Oliver is more interested in Quidditch than anything else.” Though, Charlie did enjoy Quidditch himself – it was like there was a list of interesting things:
- Dragons.
- Other Magical Creatures.
- Quidditch.
- School.
- Breathing.
- Random other stuff.
- Girls.
“I suppose I can. It wouldn’t do well for a prefect to run into the forest day one. No promises on other days though.” He gave her a wink, running a hand through his hair.

She gave the suggestion thought, "Snape would be funny, indeed."
Little did she know the larger impact of that would have later, but you know. That's later. "And, Charlie, it's only the first day. I haven't pulled anything on him yet. I haven't seen Rose since the train and I've been meaning to update her on something..."
Like the lovely date I had with her brother in the Leaky Cauldron.
"Your brother sure are one-of-a-kind, that's for sure. I'm not a hundred per cent sure what they're up to, but I'm sure it'll be hilarious either way.'
Tonks chuckled, shaking her head.
"Yes, she's pretty!" Tonks sighed, rolling her eyes. Seriously, this guy. Completely obsessed.
"Oliver is a monster," she giggled. "How do you put up with him and his rambling and getting you up at the crack of dawn every year?"
She nodded, pointing in the direction she'd seen her head in. "We can start that way, at least that's where I saw here going to before I got out here."

◣◆◢ words 191 | “Oh. Did something happen?” Charlie tilted his head semi-interested. Then again his mind was thinking about the Peruvian Vipertooth and thinking of ways to wean it off of their taste for humans… after all they wouldn’t want another extermination team to reduce their numbers.
“I guess. I don’t really pay attention to that like I said,” Charlie tilted his head trying to think of Rose and her being pretty. He supposed he could see how people enjoyed looking at her.
Charlie tilted his head and looked at Tonk with a curious look. “How do you think I deal with it?” He laughed and held his stomach for a moment. “Well, let’s see. When he drones on, I think of dragons. I wake up early already because dragons don’t work on schedules, so I’m already ready. How else will I impress the dragon tamers? I want to get a job there, so I have to show I am willing to do what is needed.”
Charlie looked in the way she pointed, and he laughed. “You know, that’s offensive in China. You should point with two fingers instead.” He gives her a wink.

Tonks gave a toothy grin. "Yes, but, it only concerns Rose."
Not like Charlie would care anyways. Dragons, dragons were number one on Charlie's list. Given the fact that Rose was there and he barely even noticed her. She giggled. He saw nothing else but Dragons. And maybe food.
She rolled her eyes, chuckling, "all right future dragon tamer. Keep your eyes open for your Gryffindor!"
She giggled.

◣◆◢ words 179 | “Oh darn, I was hoping Hagrid had gotten his hands on a dragon egg or something. Wouldn’t that be great? A dragon at Hogwarts!”
Now he had gotten himself excited just thinking of a dragon at Hogwarts. Of course, Hagrid lived in a wooden hut, so it might not be the best place for it… but even still! Dragons were amazing and maybe he could help him raise the dragon!
Yes, they were illegal to own because they could pose a danger to others, but Charlie dreamed of the day he could have a pet Norwegian Ridgeback.
“Can’t you tell me? If it has something to do with a dragon I could help! And if not, well I suppose I could help too. Could be fun I suppose.” It would be sad if it weren’t dragon related. She got his hopes up – okay he got his own hopes up. But it was her fault for keeping it secret, so his mind would wander like that! “Unless it has to do with Professor Snape. I’d rather not. He’s kinda mean.”
